Roy military survey graphic Roy Military Survey Map of Scotland, 1747-55

This application allows the Roy Military Survey Map of Scotland to be searched and viewed as a seamless, geo-referenced mosaic. Known to its contemporaries as the 'Great Map', the Roy Map is a uniquely important historical cartographic document.

OS One inch graphic Ordnance Survey Maps - One inch Scotland, 1856-1930

This application allows the Ordnance Survey One inch to the mile maps to be searched and viewed as individual map images. This set of four main editions of mapping (1856-1930), provides comprehensive coverage of Scotland.

OS six inch graphic Ordnance Survey Maps - Six-inch 1st edition, Scotland, 1843-1882

These maps form the earliest comprehensive topographic mapping of Scotland by Ordnance Survey, illustrating a very wide range of natural and man-made features for the first time. The six-inch to the mile scale (1:10,560) is the most detailed that covered the whole of Scotland, and the most detailed scale to show contours.

OS six inch graphic Ordnance Survey Maps - Six-inch 2nd and later editions, Scotland, 1892-1960

These maps form the earliest comprehensive topographic mapping of Scotland by Ordnance Survey from the 1890s to the 1940s. It was revised for the whole country from 1892-1907, and then updated regularly for urban or rapidly changing areas from 1914 to the 1940s.

OS 25 inch graphic Ordnance Survey Maps - 25 inch 1st edition, Scotland, 1855-1882

This series (1855-1882), is the earliest detailed mapping for all the inhabited regions of Scotland. All towns, villages and cultivated rural areas were mapped, comprising over a third of the total land area of Scotland.

OS 25 inch graphic Ordnance Survey Maps - 25 inch 2nd and later editions, Scotland, 1892-1949

This series forms the most detailed topographic mapping for all the inhabited regions of Scotland from the 1890s to the 1940s. The series is made up of 17,466 map sheets, and all were revised from 1892-1907. Sheets covering more populated and rapidly changing areas were selectively revised from 1914 to the 1940s.

These very detailed maps at 1:500 and 1:1056 scales, cover 62 towns in Scotland, and form the earliest, as well as the most detailed urban mapping ever published by Ordnance Survey.

The first comprehensive examination of the depths and nature of 562 inland Scottish lochs, including some 60,000 soundings on 223 coloured maps.

OS ten mile graphic Ordnance Survey, Great Britain, One-Inch to Ten Mile Planning Maps series, 1944-1960

This small-scale map series provides an excellent set of thematic maps, illustrating a wide range of natural and man-made phenomena in the 1940s and 1950s. The thematic maps include Administrative Areas, Coal and Iron, Farming, Geology, Land Classification and Land Utilisation, Limestone, Population Density and Population Change, Railways, Rainfall, and Roads.

OS ten mile graphic Great Escapes of Moray - maps of Elgin and environs from 1747 to 1938

This set of seven maps provide coverage of the Elgin, Lossiemouth and Burghead area from the mid-18th to the mid-20th centuries. They include Ordnance Survey, land utilisation and geological mapping. The maps support the Great Escapes of Moray smartphone application.

OS National Grid indexes graphic Ordnance Survey National Grid paper maps for Scotland, 1944-1991

This application retrieves geo-referenced records for all Ordnance Survey National Grid paper maps for Scotland at 1:2,500 and 1:1,250 scales. The OS maps themselves are not viewable, but this application makes map details available remotely. These include 45,000 records for sheet maps, surveyed between 1944 and 1991,
