Georeferenced Edinburgh maps

Free to use georeferenced maps of Edinburgh. Georeferenced maps in Jpg/Jgw format and Web Map Service (WMS) layers to use in Georeferencing Applications, and KML to view in Google Earth.
View licence and terms of use.

These maps and WMS layers are all in the British National Grid, OSGB 1936 (EPSG:27700) coordinate system. You will need to specify this in the Georeferencing software you are using in order for these to display in the correct position and be projected properly. Detailed information about working with different coordinate systems is available in our help guide page on Coordinate Reference Systems.

  • To use the Georeferenced Maps, download the .zip files from the table below and save the Jpg and Jgw files to the same location on your computer.
  • To use the WMS layers just copy and paste the URLs into the appropriate dialogue box in your Georeferencing software.
  • To use the Google Earth KML, click the link and open in Google Earth or save to your computer.
You will need to download the Google Earth Software.
  • To then add these as layers in your own project, follow the instructions for the specific Georeferencing software you are using. Please read our instructions detailing how to do this for ArcGIS and Quantum GIS.

Compare two maps on screen at the same time in our dual map view.

Further maps, data and boundaries can be found on our Resources pages.
