Main objectives

1. To create a set of geo-referenced historical maps of Edinburgh in the 19^th century accessible for student learning purposes.
2. To reach a broader public through the NLS website and to encourage local organisations and history networks to bring the mapping tools to the notice of their members.
3. To develop routines, using open source software, to allow the historical source material to be interrogated, layered, visualized, and analysed.
4. To develop dynamic maps, graphs, diagrams, relating of Edinburgh, and to further the understanding of 19^th and 20^th century cities more generally.
